Mom was my 1st art teacher and guidance counselor. With her direction, we pin-pointed my field of study for the future. When I was in the 9th grade Mom introduced an academic strategy of attending a 4-year school offering the major as opposed to going to an art school. Mom took me to student orientation at Jacksonville University.  She suggested the route to take which I used for a few years to drive back and forth from Jax to home.

One of her 1st lessons was to not draw off the edge of the paper, instead center a full composition in the middle area of whatever you had to work with.

I will miss her very much, and look forward to hearing her voice in my memories. My favorite thing to do with mom was make her laugh and to talk sports, also work on a puzzle at the kitchen table while she also cooked meatballs or chicken cutlets. She would always offer me small samples if I was in the kitchen at the right time or sitting somewhere in the main area of the house.

Mom is sickness-free and dancing again with my dad. She taught all three of us kids about discipline and the church. Take good care of my mom please, Jesus. She deserves it for all of the props she always gave You.

Even though gallery images are still being collected, this website needed a face-lift as soon as possible.  Its main purpose? Lead people to online brand catalogs and encourage learning more about garments ideal for their needs. Even online ordering is possible with a link to a virtual design studio, and it lets you design your own tees and other apparel with a library of possible images. Adding text and color changes there is easy, too. The virtual design studio is ideal for school groups and organizations.

Nerd & Geek Culture from the heart of Zion!

Recent contact from Ben led to a project for him and his affiliates at Gang Green Productions in Utah. It was a hasty turnaround (1 week) for an event announcement of the SLC Nerd Concert and a great way to feature the new logo.

• A quick set of clicks to create a Utah-shaped polygon,
• added the glasses for sure (even though plenty of us nerds do wear contacts.)
• “Cities = zits” idea was almost immediate as well, largest one at SLC of course.

There was a horizontal version, too. Vacant space within the boring borders of Utah was so empty, the mouth had to be added with Lake Powell and Colorado River. I liked the expression caught with a fairly accurate depiction of the lake’s border. A funny and nerdy mouth shape forms in just the right spot. This was a fun task.

You’ll see plenty of samples here on these pages, but there is a small site set up for viewing images, Flash movie clips and  web page links. It’s more organized than these casual posts and bullet lists. Currently, I’m working on image icons to click on instead of titles.

I was happy to provide some volunteer time and .eps preparation for long-time friend Joe, fellow Marine from Camp Lejeune. He has a position with League 636 in Pennsylvania and knew who to call when they needed  a patch design ready to go. I used a vector based application.

Social media brainstorm
In 2010, supplied ideas for a twitter-based logo and icon. This required the use of an email account to set up a mock presence of the company on twitter. A testing ground for viewing the appearance of the main elements: a custom-made background, the logo, an icon to use is at twitter.com/lrnsmthng

Coronary arteries line-art was brought to life with some time in Photoshop.

In most cartoon cases, I’ll use white paper and create with black marker and colored pencils.

Most enjoyed is the black markers– bold, with thick contour and a thinner one for details.  With the 2 markers (and back-ups) I’m a happy camper.

This cartoon of Barney is a “Walta Special Light” because there are limited background details.

People describe crazy things to draw sometimes, when they share private jokes with the people they are ordering for.

These things are great for Retirements and Roasts as well. Recently, an 18×22″  was done to use on an easel at her 40th Birthday Party entrance and sign in.

Sometimes black and white works well. This was created with a marker and scanned into Photoshop for some value on cheeks and eyes.

To draw people? They’re about 5 minutes to draw with a marker in black and white. Ditching the preliminary pencil sketch is crucial. The art should be clean, with confident, bold lines. Plenty of my favorite work is a sketchy base with bold art built up on top, but every stroke of the hand is time—and time is what, boys and girls?
